BILL BLOCK, President, QED

Bill Block founded QED INTERNATIONAL in December 2005 where he leads day-to-day operations and strategy for the company. Previously, Block was President of Artisan Entertainment where he supervised all divisions – film production and acquisitions, international distribution, home entertainment, and television. Block managed Artisan’s senior lending as well as international distribution relationships. While at Artisan, Block acquired The Blair Witch Project which realized one of the most profitable returns on investment in film history. Artisan was successfully sold to Lionsgate in December 2003. Before Artisan, Block was one of the industry’s leading talent agents as Head of West Coast Operations for International Creative Management from 1992 to 1997 and founder of the Intertalent Agency.

Very useful information into the inner workings of agents and their assistants. Would be interested in techniques to energized the assistant to read script and to place it on the top of the agents must read

Wow, this was great. I recently read two books, one on Market Segmentation and the other on Product Positioning. What Mr. Block says makes sense when you think about your script in the terms I just mentioned. OMG!

Block's clarity and his honest respect for an agent's assistant is just the kind of insider wisdom I need to remember when the depressing agent blues of writers is playing in my head.

This feels like very grounded, honest marketing advice. Easier said then done, yet it's extremely emboldening to see Bill's read on the etiquette, politics and mechanics of approaching agents and their assistants. There is a potential gold mine in this subject.
