Ah-ha! Mr. Mckee answered this question well, and admirably too. If you search on this site though, there is in fact a video of him saying that he knows of the book and thinks it was written by a hack! It's a decent book, but it's no "STORY" and Blake Synder is no Robert McKee.

I hope I don't sound like a snob, but I always tell anyone who asks me what they should do when starting to make movies, "Read STORY." That's it. More often than not, they'll say they've read only the Cat book, and you know they're not going far. There's a depth and complexity to Story not found in the cat book or the others like Syd Field. And so, in consequence, it takes almost a decade to fully comprehend, appreciate, and assimilate. It's one of the two most important books in my life, and it has been my own personal odyssey in growing up with it.
